The library has received an application from lecturer Dr. Noor Suraya Binti Romali, to hold a user education class, for 25 Civil Engineering Diploma students at the Faculty of Civil Engineering Technology. The class was held at Gambang Library Computer Lab on March 31, 2023, from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. This class aims to expose students to the process of searching for reference materials in the library and on open access platforms.

This class is conducted by Puan Affida binti Abu Bakar and assisted by the staff of the Education and Research Unit. Before searching for reference materials, students were given a brief guide on topic selection and identifying keywords. Furthermore, the students have been asked to be actively involved during the hands-on activities such as searching library subscription databases through ScienceDirect, Springerlink, Taylor & Francis, and other platforms for keywords related to their study topics.

In addition, students are also given training in the use of Mendeley which is a reference management platform. Students are shown guidelines for entering reference sources and managing their reference sources more easily and effectively using Mendeley. They were also taught on how to create an APA reference list and how to generate a reference list during the Mendeley training session.

Overall, this class has provided students with valuable exposure on how to access high-quality reference sources and provided them with knowledge on how to search for reference materials more effectively. The library hopes that all students who attend this class will benefit from the sharing provided and be able to apply it in their learning.
