UMPSA Delegation Explores Best Practices at UMK Office of Library and Knowledge Management – 27 July 2025

BACHOK, 27 July 2025 - Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah Library (UMPSA) recently conducted a benchmarking visit to the Library and Knowledge Management Office (PPI), Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK).
The UMPSA Library delegation was led by the Chief Librarian, Hajah Kamariah Gono, together with Deputy Chief Librarians, Amelia Hasan and Iswan Akim Ismail, and Librarian, Mohd Ariffin Abdul Aziz.
Accompanying the visit was Information Technology Manager, Ts. Dr. Sabri Ahmad Hisham, Syahnizam Abdullah Sani and lecturer from the Faculty of Computing, Ts. Aziman Abdullah.
The UMPSA delegation was welcomed by the Deputy Chief Librarian of PPI UMK, Ts. Amirul Firdaus Zilah.


According to UMPSA Chief Librarian, Hajah Kamariah Gono, the visit aimed to gain further exposure regarding the Discovery Service System, (KAWOH - Knowledge, Access, Wide, Open, Hub).
“This benchmarking visit purpose is to see and learn how the KAWOH system was developed and if we have the capacity, we are interested in developing it ourselves,” she said.
The KAWOH system briefing was delivered by Ts. Amirul Firdaus Zilah mostly regarding the content and technical requirements of the system.
According to him, KAWOH was developed by harvesting open access data from various system platforms such as the Malaysia Institutional Repository (MALREP), Research Data Repository, MyScholar UMK, UMK Library Catalogue and others.
The UMPSA delegation was also taken to visit the PPI gallery space, the University Archives and the Maker Space space which houses a 3D printer for the use of UMK students.
This benchmarking visit is expected to further strengthen the relationship between the two libraries, while serving as a catalyst for the development of new systems and driving service innovation at the UMPSA Library in the future.
