Knowledge Sharing Program: Strengthening Translation Skills among UMPSA Library Staff - 8 July 2025

Pekan, 8 July 2025 – Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) Library organized a knowledge-sharing program entitled “Meaningful Translation: Process, Purpose and Accuracy”, which was attended by all UMPSA Library staff.

The program that took place in the UMPSA Library Executive Lounge and held virtually for Gambang campus library staff, was facilitated by Senior Assistant Librarian, Hajah Ratna Wilis Haryati Mustapa, who has nearly 25 years of experience of translation works.

During the session, she elaborated on the distinctions between interpreters and translators.

Interpreters are responsible for conveying messages orally and spontaneously in settings such as in courts, international conferences, and hospitals, while translators work on translating written content such as reports, articles, and official documents.

She also shared several practical guidelines for effective translation, including reading and understanding the source text thoroughly, utilizing appropriate applications for translation, comparing the original and translated texts, and editing the final draft to ensure accuracy.
